Mercedes-Benz is a global automobile manufacturer first seen in 1926 under Daimler-Benz. Another predecessor to Mercedes-Benz, Benz Patent-Motorwagen, also dates back to 1886, which is widely regarded as the first gasoline-powered automobile.
The first Mercedes-Benz 190 SL prototype was shown at the 1954 New York Auto Show with an optional removable hardtop. The Road & Track October 1955 test said, “The outstanding achievement of the 190SL is without a doubt its quality in design and workmanship. But a close second is the general feeling of solidity which it immediately conveys…”
The 1955 190SL was recently named #20 of 30 best Mercedes-Benzes of all time by complex.com. The older brother, the 1954 300SL made #3 on the same list.
